Stellar PHP Engineer Wanted
We’re looking for someone who loves to write PHP and who thrives on working with a small, passionate team. You’ll “own” a big piece of a product that is used by developers around the world – a product that was called “emblematic of the direction the best of the web is going” by Marshall Kirkpatrick of Techcrunch, and “an idea whose time has come” by Mitch Ratcliffe at ZDNet. We have a ton of new features on our roadmap that need to be implemented as soon as possible. In regular releases, you will be making immediate and significant contributions to Mashery’s success.
What is Mashery?
Mashery is changing the way companies use, manage, and monetize their API’s. We’re well-funded by a group of successful and influential investors. As the first company to offer on demand API infrastructure, we provide companies with a unique combination including security, usage, access management, tracking, metrics, commerce, performance optimization, and developer community tools. Check us out further at www.mashery.com. We work hard and expect a lot to happen in a short period of time, but we also understand that balance is important and we all need to have a life outside of work. We’re the sort of company that will do whatever it takes to make our customers happy (yes, by the way, we do have real customers and real revenue), and we’re not afraid to bend the rules a bit to get our message out:

Location
Our offices are in downtown San Francisco close to BART, Muni, and Caltrain. You must be a local candidate or willing to relocate.
Skills you need to succeed
• Someone who’s intimately familiar with PHP 5 OOP practices (we require PHP 5 E_STRICT clean code internally).
• Someone who doesn’t necessarily love writing unit tests, but loves what unit tests provide.
• Someone who strives to produce better code every day, and who’s open to new ways of doing just that.
• Someone who is interested in taking and passing Zend PHP 5 Certification. Mashery sponsorship of course!
Background
• Our ideal candidate will be someone familiar with the pros and cons of SOAP vs XML-RPC vs REST.
• Someone who knows what JSON stands for, and why it’s cool.
• Someone who cares about documenting their source carefully, and believes in decent commit messages (at least 85% of the time).
Additional desired traits/skills
We’re looking for more than just a code guru, though.
• Someone who understands that we’re a business–so we have to ship to generate revenue.
• Someone who can work well with others, and who understands that different points of view from their own are not inherently “wrong” .
• Someone who understands that “perfect” can’t get in the way of “pretty damn good.”
• Someone who can share and accept suggestions for improvements from team members.
• Someone who realizes that what goes into production must fail gracefully on the rare occasions that it fails.
