Job Summary
We’re in a high growth phase and are seeking an experienced marketing executive with a proven track record of developing and executing aggressive marketing plans in a startup environment where creativity, initiative and scrappiness are more abundant than large promotion budgets. We’re happy to spend money, but we expect a lot of (measurable) return for the money we invest.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of Mashery’s marketing strategy with the primary focus of increasing our customer base.
Join our Team
As part of our management team we are looking for someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, is passionate about growing a business and can be both strategic and hands-on. You don’t wait around to be told what to do…and you don’t wait around for someone else to do the things that need to be done. We need someone who can dig in and understand what we do, why we do it, and who should care…and effectively communicate this to our target audience. If you’re both a leader and a hands-on professional who wants to make a major contribution, have high visibility both inside and outside the company, and love to take on a lot of responsibility then this is the role for you.
Job Details & Skills you’ll need to succeed
- You can write. Well. Very well.
- You understand that the only initiatives that matter are ones that generate leads, customers and revenue.
- You can dig in and be hands on in learning the product – we’re a small team & there’s a lot to figure out, so being naturally curious about things will be very helpful. There’s no formal “marketing training program.”
- Even when things are busy, you’ll keep the website, blog, etc. fresh and interesting (and push the rest of the team to contribute to it too).
- You understand how to get attention in a nontraditional (and economical) way. Need an example? http://www.forbes.com/technology/2006/12/09/marketing-internet-software-tech_cz_vb_1211letter.html.
- You have not just admired guerilla marketing, you have done it.
- You have a very strong visual sense - design is an integral part of communication, and you understand why. We're not looking for a graphic designer, but we are looking for someone who knows what looks good and won't put out something that doesn't.
- You can determine, lead, and execute appropriate PR initiatives to create market buzz.
- You can develop, budget, and execute marketing initiatives from concept to completion. This is not an entry-level position, but it is also not the right position for someone who is all strategy and doesn’t like the day-to-day execution.
- You communicate effectively both internally and externally and adjust to a diverse audience, including management, developers, and peers at other companies.
- You have the confidence to express your opinions and advocate for ideas that are unconventional or even unpopular, but the maturity and professionalism to do a great job regardless of whether you agree with the ultimate decision.
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing resources and or a small team.
We want to see:
- You can demonstrate how your marketing initiatives/experience have directly supported sales/revenue generation.
- You can demonstrate you’ve had real experience in measuring marketing initiatives, programs.
- Links to your blog or a blog you have contributed to.
- Support materials you've worked on - case studies, white papers, presentations, whatever showcases your ability to take a technical or business-heavy subject and make it compelling.
Background/Requirements
- Successful experience as a marketing executive with experience launching new software or SaaS products.
- Experience in marketing a SaaS product.
- Team player, plays well with others, collaborates effectively.
- BA/BS degree required.
